Filtering HTTPS websites

How can I restrict access to HTTPS websites?

CyberPatrol filters at the network layer and https sites by their nature are encrypted and cannot be intercepted by filtering products. It is something we are aware of and are currently considering how best to overcome. However,  there is no silver bullet , as what would work for Internet Explorer will likely not work for other browsers such as Mozilla Firefox. The solution would probably be to block all https traffic on a per user profile basis.

You have an option to change the configuration of Internet Explorer to block all HTTPS traffic by putting in a dummy server address so that the page shows as not found. You would then need to lock the ability to change these settings down through Local Group Policy.

To access the HTTPS settings:

1. Open Internet Explorer and click on Tools > Internet Options. Click on Connections tab and open LAN Settings.

2. Check the box to Use a 'Proxy server..' and click the Advanced button.

3. In here you can input a dummy https address and port.
