CHANGING THE DEFAULT PROFILE

If you are not using Windows User Integration, but you are setting up specific profiles for each user, it is a good idea to make the Default profile as limiting as possible. This ensures a higher degree of protection, particularly in the case of the Default profile being used if the computer is left connected to the Internet and unattended.

Setting Default to Block All

You can set the Default profile to block all Internet access and any programs that you list in the Programs screen. There are a number of reasons why you might want to do this. For example:

  • You could prevent your users from using the Swtich User feature to change to the Default profile when it is less restrictive than their own profile.
  • If you don’t want to spend time copying the most limiting profile to the Default profile, you can simply set the Default profile to block all access, which will make it the most limiting profile.

To set the Default profile to block all:

  1. From the Menus Option, click Customize Filter Settings.
  2. For each Filter Option, click Filter Level drop-down list and make select the following options:

    • Set Web Filtering to Block All.
    • Set Program Restrictions to Block All.
    • Set ChatGard Filtering to Block All.
    • Set Newsgroup Filtering to Block All.
    • Set Monitoring to On.
    • Set Instant Override to Off .

    Block All

  3. Click Save.
The profile is set to block all access. If anyone tries to use this profile to access the Internet, use a Chat program, or run any programs that you have added to CyberPatrol, they will be blocked.

Note: When setting the Program Restriction Options to Block All, CyberPatrol only blocks programs, including Chat programs, that you have added to the Program List screen. Also ensure that Time Management is set to On.

To copy the settings of the most restrictive profile to the Default profile:

If a user's profile is more restrictive than the Default profile, you can ensure that anyone who uses the Default profile receives the higher level of filtering by making an exact copy of the more restrictive profile.

  1. Select the most restrictive profile from the User Profile list box at the top of the HQ pane.
  2. From the Options Menu, select Customize Filter Settings, Time Management, Settings.
  3. In the Time Management Settings screen, lick the Enable Time Management check box.
  4. Click the Copy To button at the bottom of the Time Management screen.
    The Copy To dialog appears.

  5. Copy To

  6. Check the check box next to the Default User Profile.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Now navigate through each screen of the user profile that you are copying, clicking the Copy To button and checking the check box by the Default profile before clicking OK.
  9. Choose Default from the User Configuration list box at the top of the Headquarters screen and check each screen that you have copied from the restrictive profile to make sure that they are a perfect match.

Note: The Default profile can be returned to its original settings at any time by clicking Default Settings.
