THE DEFAULT USER PROFILE

Although you can create individual user profiles for each member of your family, CyberPatrol provides an immediate, out-of-the-box filtering profile called the Default user profile. You specify the settings for the Default user profile when you install CyberPatrol, by selecting the Environment and User Type, as shown below:

 CyberPatrol Setup

During installation you can create the most restrictive Default user profile by choosing Home as the Environment and Child as the User Type. This combination of Environment and User Type provides the highest degree of filtering and protection. Note that you may also choose other Environments and User Types for the Default user profile during installation, depending on your particular needs. For instructions on how to create user profiles after installation, see Creating New User Profiles.

Benefits of the Default User Profile

The Default user profile, a ready-made profile automatically included with CyberPatrol, provides the following benefits:

  • Serves as an instant user profile available for the computer to use if no other profile is selected.
  • Provides a reasonably safe form of filtering for your environment right out-of-the-box should you choose not to set up any other profiles.

User Profile Options

After creating your user profiles, you can set additional options to fully customize each profile. The following list describes these options:

Time Management

Set to On if you choose a Home environment, with a daily surfing limit of 4 hours, and a weekly limit of 20 hours. Internet access is disabled between 11 pm and 7 am. If you set up CyberPatrol for a business environment then Time Management is disabled.

Web Filtering

Set to Filter. For a Home environment all web page categories are checked and filtering is set to maximum strength. For other environments, the categories checked and the filtering strength vary, depending on the selected environment. For information about web page categories, see the CyberPatrol web site.

Program Restrictions

Set to Filter the programs that you add to the Program List. You can choose to allow or deny access to specific programs; or allow access based on your Time Management settings.

ChatGuard

Set to Filter chat programs and keywords that you add to ChatGuard Filtering. Keywords can applied globally to all user profiles, or you can apply certain keywords to a specific user profile.

Newsgroups

Set to filter the newsgroups and keywords you add to Blocked Newsgroups. Monitoring is set to On for a Home environment, but is different for other environments. Keywords can be applied globally to all user profiles, or you can apply certain keywords to a specific user profile.

Monitoring

Set to On for Home environment. You can monitor and view the web pages accessed or blocked, and time spent surfing.

Instant Override

Set to On for Home Environment. Let you determine if a user profile can temporarily override a blocked web page, as well as the length of time the user can override the block.
