Upon entering the web page, a message will appear in the Threat Detector display box asking you to load the "ThreatDetector.cab" ActiveX control.
A message may appear at the top of your browser asking you to confirm whether or not you want to continue with the installation. Click On Click Here to continue with the installation. Then Select and Click On Install ActiveX Control. Installation takes just a few minutes.
Note: CyberPatrol Threat Detector will not retain or share any information that is used during the scan.
Threat Detector scan results are based on the most restrictive filtering level in our products. Some sites classified as threats may not be cause for concern. Typically, if you see 5 or more detected threats in a single category, there may have been activity on the PC that you should investigate.
CyberPatrol blocks nine categories of web sites that are generally accepted as bad or undesirable. Threat Detector Scans Your PC to determine if web sites that meet category definitions have been browsed from your computer.
Categories and their definitions are listed below:
Adult Content |
Adult content sites include a wide variety of web sites. Many of the sites found here discuss adult topics, offer phone sex, and entrance to adult chat rooms. Nudity may be included, as well as domains that sell adult novelty items (vibrators, and sex toys), or adult videos. Hate, advocating of violence, Satanism and other subversive group sites are included in this category as well. |
Alcohol and Tobacco |
Sites that sell alcohol and/or tobacco, as well as those that discuss how to make alcohol and mixed beverages. |
Error or Blank |
These are sites that are often times mis-configured and may launch an exploit when you land on these pages. They can also be designed to misdirect you to an entirely different site. |
Gambling |
Online gambling, bookmaking, sports betting, dog tracks, and horse race betting sites are included in this category. Sites that host gambling events but do not allow online betting are not included. |
Hacking and Warez |
Sites that discuss or distribute tools for hacking, cracking, attacking, or phreaking systems. Any site that contains keys, serial numbers, or cracked downloads for pirated programs will be found in this category. |
Illegal Activities |
Illegal online pharmacies (prescription free purchasing), how to modify weapons, bomb making, phishing, credit card fraud, illegal drugs and drug manufacturing, and recreational drug usage sites are included here. |
Parked Domains |
Some parked domains can be legitimate sites that are for sale, while some have been set up to sell you things via ads contained on the page. Often times, parked domains are used to distribute viruses and other malware. |
Spam |
These are sites that have been flagged for sending unwanted mail. Often times this mail contains links that can take you to inappropriate sites that might contain malware, viruses or even phishing traps. |
XXX |
These sites contain graphic adult material. Most are pornographic sites and sites that sell pornographic material. |
